Lately I’ve been wearing lipstick almost every day. It’s become something like mascara so basic but utterly transformative. It’s powers are mighty. It can instantly transform a bland beige look into something a bit more dangerous. Here are a few pictures my friend Matt took awhile back – me, Jess, Eva, and Jaquana. The shade I’m wearing above is called Beguiled by Topshop – discovered it in the store and it’s the perfect wine-stained treasure, it would be a bit more lovely if only it were a bit more matte.
Maybe I will start updating more frequently, but I’m so very sick of this design… Will try to vamp it up and make some new magic happen. Already missing Fall and being able to just wear a cardigan like in these photos, it’s already time to dress like a big marshmallow.
Halloween haters are a weird breed. Sure, there’s always a hustle for a last minute costume, planning tribulations, where to go,what to do, who to do it with. But take it all away and it’s a moment to play dress up for a day. The weirder, the better. Telling a story, making moves. Abandoning your regular costume for a day.
Carolina’s Margot is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Perfect butterscotch fur coat. She’s lucky to look like Gwynnie. We met Dolores Haze, the object of Humbert Humbert’s undying obsession near the boats in Central Park for a row boating rendez-vous. Could have chopped off the head of the Boat Attendee when he put up the Closed sign before we got a chance.
My first New York summer. Truth be told I was more than startled by the ubiquitous humidity. It’s real and it’s real intense. Once you get past breeze that feels like exhaust pipes, there is a strange magic to summertime here. I’ve officially moved to Williamsburg, a major positive. Goodbye, stanky midtown cesspool of an apartment, and hello, mustache captial of the city.
The prolific amount of free outdoor concerts and film screenings makes for enchanting nights… Just the other week, we went to Prospect Park bandshell to see Sonic Youth. A little time spent fiddling our thumbs in line, and we were lucky enough to get third row seats. Though those seats were taken from us… We were punished for dancing on them! Can you really blame us though? Kim Gordon (et al) were rocking and rollicking really fucking hard.
This past weekend we day tripped it to Governor’s Island for Freelance Whales and Wild Nothing. I’m not usually a star gawker but I saw Maeby Funke and I had the dorkiest little freakout ever. All in all a magical way to spend an evening, the sun setting on an epic view of Battery Park and the Downtown skyline – thanks Converse for putting on such a kick ass show.
As a fashion assistant at the veritable fashion bible, Women’s Wear Daily, each day was challenging and new. Whether it was doing arduous research and pulling inspiration from a bevy of sources, or running around like crazy with a lint roller, every moment was precious. I want to start to share old memories, since a lot of times it was my duty (and privilege!) to document the behind the scenes at cover shoots and fashion spreads. The pictures below were taken for an Ashlee Simpson & Melrose Place story. Ashlee was the chillest/funniest of all the actresses, I have to divulge.
Fooling around with all the jewelry! Good gracious! I’m missing that tan right about now.
I spy Tom Binns! And maybe a bit of vintage Givenchy …
Pssssst. Some very cutesy options from Stella McCartney, Preen, Jasmine Shokrian, and Phillip Lim amongst others.
Stylist/Fashion Editor/Mentor extraordinaire Leila Baboi showing Ashlee (in Stella) some options.
Hope you enjoyed this ‘lil peek behind the scenes. More to come – if you so wish.
