Lately I’ve been wearing lipstick almost every day. It’s become something like mascara so basic but utterly transformative. It’s powers are mighty. It can instantly transform a bland beige look into something a bit more dangerous. Here are a few pictures my friend Matt took awhile back – me, Jess, Eva, and Jaquana. The shade I’m wearing above is called Beguiled by Topshop – discovered it in the store and it’s the perfect wine-stained treasure, it would be a bit more lovely if only it were a bit more matte.
Maybe I will start updating more frequently, but I’m so very sick of this design… Will try to vamp it up and make some new magic happen. Already missing Fall and being able to just wear a cardigan like in these photos, it’s already time to dress like a big marshmallow.
Halloween haters are a weird breed. Sure, there’s always a hustle for a last minute costume, planning tribulations, where to go,what to do, who to do it with. But take it all away and it’s a moment to play dress up for a day. The weirder, the better. Telling a story, making moves. Abandoning your regular costume for a day.
Carolina’s Margot is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Perfect butterscotch fur coat. She’s lucky to look like Gwynnie. We met Dolores Haze, the object of Humbert Humbert’s undying obsession near the boats in Central Park for a row boating rendez-vous. Could have chopped off the head of the Boat Attendee when he put up the Closed sign before we got a chance.
Let’s call this what it is. Katie Gallagher is one to watch. In September the young designer presented her SS11 collection in the heart of New York’s garment district to a lot of buzz – and I was lucky enough to snap some photos… Styled by like-minded visionaire Kate Lanphear, the collection showed the versatility of the forward thinking creative. Though she primarily works with witchy black fabrics among other noncolors,by adding punchy hues such as slick patent reds, athletic blues, and violet, the designer flexed her alternative muscle… At once a bit Hackers raver with splash of nostalgic High School sports team vibes. A subversively sexy collection made for the wanton desires of your inner goth. Am I the only girl who has one?
A new shoe line I discovered today is a god-send for New Yorkers and country girls alike. Perfect for braving subways, alleys, meadows, and riverbeds alike – they look like they’d wear in nicely, but still have plenty of flair. And since I’ve been wearing heels a lot lately (Who have I become?!!) a practical pair of flat boots would be nice. Definitely a brand to watch – New Kids. I didn’t even make the New Kids On The Block pun, but trust me, I definitely thought about it.
Every time the Autumn leaves start changing colors, temperatures drop, and the wind picks up… Wait. Who am I kidding, I’m from Southern California? Our imaginary Fall always leaves something to be desired, but each year dreamed of dressing like a detective. Something about it screams Fall. A big trench coat, a bit of smudgey eyeliner for a little dramalama, and you’re solving crimes like Eddie Constantine.
Current detective Muse? Anna Karina in the crazyviolentwackytimes film (that I LOOVE) Made In USA. I think these are the only film stills without gushing blood??? Watch it, watch it now.
Just a quick set of photos of Diane Kruger in this month’s Contributing Editor. Part of me really wants to hate Diane, cause she’s like this alien-esque freaky deeky example of perfect. She never looks messed up or dishelved – and don’t get me started on my theory of how her and Joshua Jackson are a total setup. Conspiracy theory much? Really they are darling, but I find it hard not to poke truth holes in their picture-perfect life.
Anyhooo how nice and fall-feeling are these pictures? Camel, rust, navyyyyyyy!
